Kissito’s PACE program makes a splash in Hong Kong

The 28th international conference of the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua), themed “Patient safety: Sustaining the Global Momentum”, was successfully held in Hong Kong from September 14 till September 17, 2011. Two thousand or so delegates from around the world including policy makers, regulators, accreditors, quality improvement leaders, health care professionals, hospital managers, innovators and researchers attended the Hong Kong conference and were introduced to Kissito’s Program for the All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) , presented by Alakananda Mohanty, Director of Research and Policy for Kissito Healthcare.

The theme of the conference carried the notion that patient safety is a global initiative extending throughout the entire continuum of health care and is in line with World Health Organization’s call for global learning in healthcare safety. The conference provided a great platform to share experiences concerning healthcare safety and quality, and to interact with experts and leaders in the field from around the world. Not only that, the health and safety knowledge shared among all the local and international delegates would help enable the participants to continue improving healthcare in the areas they serve.

The prestigious conference was staged for the first time in Asia. In addition to talks and presentations there were workshops, site visits and a trade exhibition. It was jointly organized by ISQua and the Department of Health, Hong Kong SAR Government. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Honorable Henry Tang Ying-yen, Chief Secretary for Administration, and attended by Ma Xiaowei, Chinese Vice Minister of Health, and Dr York Chow, the Secretary for Food and Health.

ISQua is the world’s leading independent, non-government organization which works on quality practice and performance improvement across the entire continuum of health care worldwide. ISQua has accredited many globally renowned health care accreditation organizations in the world. The 29th ISQUA conference will be held in Geneva, Switzerland in 2012.
